The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a flagship program launched by the United States Government aimed at grooming the next wave of African leaders who will play pivotal roles in shaping the future of African business and entrepreneurship, civil society leadership, and public sector management. The YALI RLC Emerging Leaders Program offers three distinct tracks to cater to the diverse leadership aspirations of participants. The Business and Entrepreneurship track is tailored for emerging entrepreneurs looking to lead in the private sector or establish their business ventures. The Civil Society Management track is designed for those passionate about civic engagement and serving the public through NGOs, community-based organizations, or volunteer work. Lastly, the Public Policy and Management track targets individuals interested in governmental, regional, and international organizations, or think tanks.
To be eligible for the YALI RLC Emerging Leaders Program, applicants must be between 18 to 35 years old at the time of application, citizens and residents of specific West African countries, not U.S. citizens or permanent residents, able to obtain a visa to Ghana, and proficient in English. The selection process is merit-based, emphasizing qualities such as demonstrated leadership, active engagement in public service or business, teamwork skills, social and communication abilities, as well as a commitment to applying learned skills for the betterment of their respective communities post-program. The application deadline is not specified, and interested individuals can apply through the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) website. This program encourages diversity and inclusivity, emphasizing that no applicant will face discrimination based on various factors.
