Annually, the UN Global Compact honours the extraordinary contributions of business leaders who are at the forefront of promoting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and adhering to the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact. These trailblazers, known as SDG Pioneers, are instrumental in motivating others and demonstrating the transformative role businesses can play in achieving a more sustainable world for everyone.
In 2024, the UN Global Compact is excited to commence a new search for twelve outstanding SDG Pioneers from its member companies. These individuals stand out not only for their roles but also for their commitment to ambitious SDG objectives, their efforts to broaden their impact, and their advocacy for a principled business approach. Through a meticulous selection process that includes Local and Global Rounds, we aim to spotlight those who show exceptional dedication, creativity, and leadership in pushing the SDGs forward.
United Nations Global Compact SDG Pioneers Program Overview
Key Benefits:
- Winners of the Local Round in each country will be honoured as “2024 Global Compact Network [Country] SDG Pioneer”.
- The UN Global Compact will commend 12 Global SDG Pioneers in two categories: 1) Large National and Multinational companies and 2) SMEs.
- Additionally, Global SDG Pioneers will be acknowledged in six regional categories reflecting the UN Global Compact’s operational areas: Western Europe and North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Oceania.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be from UN Global Compact participant companies that are “Active”.
- Companies should have become participants in the UN Global Compact before October 1, 2023.
- To retain Active status, companies are required to submit their Communication on Progress (CoP) from April 1 to July 31. Subsidiary participation is permitted if the parent company fulfils this criterion. To ensure a smooth application process for the Pioneers program, it is highly recommended that the CoP be submitted by June 1, 2024. Failure to comply by July 31 will lead to disqualification. Any changes in CoP status after being named a Local and/or Global SDG Pioneer could jeopardize the global SDG Pioneer title.
Selection Timeline:
- Campaign Start: April 3, 2024
- Application Period: April 3, 2024 – May 17, 2024
- Announcement of Local SDG Pioneers: July 1, 2024
- Global Round Review: May 17, 2024 – August 2024
- Global Winners Announcement at the 2024 Leaders Summit: September 24, 2024
Application Deadline:
May 17, 2024
