TWAS-Abdool Karim Award in Biological Sciences 2024

The TWAS Award in Biological Sciences is an opportunity for women scientists from Least Developed African countries to receive recognition for their achievements in this field. The award, named after TWAS President Professor Quarraisha Abdool Karim, comes with a cash prize of USD 5,000 generously provided by Professor Abdool Karim.

TWAS is inviting nominations for the 2024 Award from all of its members, as well as science academies, national research councils, universities, and scientific institutions in both developing and developed countries. The deadline for applications is May 10, 2024.

To be eligible for the award, female scientists must be nationals of a Least Developed African country and have been living and working there for at least two years before their nomination (i.e., from 01/02/2022). Fellows of TWAS are not eligible, and self-nominations and nominations from jury members will not be considered.

The nomination procedure involves submitting a complete nomination that includes information on the nominee’s contact details, authorization from the nominee to process her data, a suggested citation highlighting the nominee’s scientific achievements in Biological Sciences, and a supporting statement detailing the nominee’s contribution in Biological Sciences. In addition, a clear and detailed account of any time spent abroad by the nominee in the past two years, information on the nominee’s PhD subject area, year, and awarding institution, brief information on membership in academies and societies, a list of the ten most significant publications listed in an internationally acceptable format, the nominee’s brief CV, and her complete list of publications are also required.

It is essential to pay close attention to the requirements for each field while filling in the nomination form. After filling in the necessary fields, run a check using the button of the form menu to verify that mandatory fields have been filled in and the data you entered are accepted. Fields with NOT ACCEPTED OR MISSING DATA will be highlighted in RED. You can find more information about the application process on the TWAS website.
