The Steve Eshiemogie Scholarship is a unique opportunity for final-year undergraduate students enrolled in Nigerian federal government universities. This scholarship is specifically designed for students who are interested in pursuing lifelong careers in biological sciences and engineering. Modern biotechnology started in the early 1970s and has since been responsible for the manufacture and large-scale production of a wide array of chemicals, biopharmaceuticals, and other products. The Steve Eshiemogie Undergraduate Scholarship offers a value of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000) and professional career mentorship. The scholarship is partially funded and is open to both men and women.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be Nigerian students studying in Nigeria and enrolled in a “federal” government university. Applicants must be studying any of the following courses: chemical engineering, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, plant biology, or related courses. Additionally, applicants must be advancing to the final year of undergraduate study, that is, complete 300 Level if their course is a 4-year course or complete 400 Level if their course is a 5-year course. They must have a last sessional CGPA of at least 4.3 on a 5.0 scale or 3.3 on a 4.0 scale and must not be a recipient of any other scholarship.

The selection process for the scholarship balances need and merit, with the selection committee first looking out for students with outstanding performance and then selecting the students with the most need from the pool. The application for the scholarship opens on February 17, 2024, and closes on February 24, 2024. Scholars will be notified on March 30, 2024.

To apply for the scholarship, applicants must write a well-detailed statement of purpose, draft a well-structured CV/Resume, obtain two letters of recommendation from lecturers (or professors) in their department, obtain a signed letter from their HOD or course advisor confirming that they are not a beneficiary of any other scholarship, obtain a copy of their undergraduate transcript showing their grades from 100 Level to their current level, and prepare a document that clearly states the full amount of their tuition (school fee), start and end date of their final year of study, official deadline for payment of their school fee, and the title of their undergraduate project topic (if they have one).
