The Kofi Annan Award for Innovation in Africa is back with a second edition, calling for innovative solutions across the continent that can contribute to Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger. With a focus on enhancing food security and improving nutrition, the award seeks digital or technology-powered solutions from social entrepreneurs that address priority topics such as the inclusion of marginalized groups in food security, enhanced nutrition for women, and circular solutions for reducing post-harvest losses.
The award is operationally supported by the Austrian Development Agency and the WFP Innovation Accelerator and offers a range of benefits to the most promising ventures. Nine teams will participate in an acceleration boot camp, which includes expert guidance from technical and industry mentors, with a chance to apply for equity-free funding of up to EUR250,000 per innovation, and access to a 12-month sprint program for the three ventures selected.
Regardless of funding outcome, all nine ventures will have the opportunity to harness and leverage a robust network of pertinent businesses, investors, and mentors, enhancing their potential for long-term success and sustainability. If you have a for-profit legal entity that has been incorporated for at least two years and a demonstrated social impact, with a committed founding team of at least three full-time employees, and a minimum viable product or validated prototype that meets the eligibility criteria, then submit your business plan by February 8, 2024, to the Kofi Annan Award for Innovation in Africa website.
