JOB DESCRIPTION

Are you passionate about working with children and youth who are experiencing mental health and behavioural challenges? If so, we have an opportunity for you! We are seeking three (3) term positions for 24 months working 75 hours bi-weekly as Child and Youth Support Workers.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of exceptional colleagues, leading group activities that provide children and youth with the chance to have fun while developing the social-emotional skills they need to thrive. You will help children and youth learn to regulate their emotions, form and sustain friendships, communicate effectively, feel a sense of belonging, and develop social skills.

We are looking for creative and flexible individuals who have experience implementing community-based therapeutic, recreational, or life skills programming, as well as experience working with children or youth both one-on-one and in a group setting. Post-secondary coursework in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, or another social sciences field is also essential. Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and experience working with children who have experienced trauma would be an asset.

As a candidate, you should have strong leadership skills, effective conflict resolution skills, and the ability to work collaboratively. You should also have a well-developed understanding of effective intervention strategies for children and youth with behavioural challenges, excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written), and effective problem-solving skills. The ability to work evenings and weekends, as well as the ability to be physically active and capable of physical exertion and high energy demands when working with children, is also required.
