The Hatfield Lioness Scholarship is a postgraduate scholarship designed to help a female student from a developing country pursue higher education at Durham University. The scholarship was launched in 2018 as part of Hatfield College’s 30th anniversary celebration of women students at Durham University. The scholarship is funded by alumni, friends of the college, and other supporters of the scholarship’s mission.
The Lioness Scholarship seeks to award an individual who possesses the requisite academic and personal qualities to complete a postgraduate course and who will act as a positive representative of their home country in Durham. The recipient is expected to utilize the knowledge and skills gained from the master’s program and experience in Durham to benefit society upon their return home.
The scholarship covers full payment of university tuition fees, a stipend for living expenses, fully funded accommodation at Hatfield College, one return economy air ticket from the student’s home country to the UK, and the cost of return travel between the UK airport and Durham City. Additionally, it covers the cost of a UK visa and the UK Health surcharge. The scholarship does not provide funding for dependents or travel during the scholarship, and accommodation is solely for the scholarship holder.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have applied for and received an unconditional offer to their chosen master’s program at Durham University by June 2024. Additionally, applicants must not receive any other scholarship funding for their postgraduate studies, must identify as a woman, and must be a national of one of the designated countries. The scholarship is available for students starting a degree program in September/October 2024.
Interested applicants must first apply to Durham University for their desired master’s program and then apply for the Hatfield College Lioness Scholarship, including all supporting documents, by the college deadline of March 31, 2024. Candidates will hear the outcome of their scholarship application by mid-June 2024. Visit the Durham University website for more information on the scholarship and application process.
