Government of the Slovak Republic Scholarships – international students 2024

The Government of the Slovak Republic is currently offering a National scholarship program for international students to support the mobility of students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers, and artists for scholarship stays at higher education institutions and research organizations in Slovakia. The scholarship offers coverage for living expenses during the stay and travel allowances for all categories in case of scholarship holders from Slovakia and for students and PhD students in case of international scholarship holders. The scholarship is funded and offers several awards for PhD students, university teachers, researchers, and artists from both domestic and international backgrounds.

To be eligible for the Government of the Slovak Republic Scholarships, applicants are expected to meet certain criteria. Applicants must be university students at universities outside Slovakia, students of the second level of higher education (master’s students) who have already completed at least 2.5 years of their university studies in the same/similar study program, and must be on a study stay in Slovakia during their higher education outside Slovakia and be accepted by a public, private, or state higher education institution in Slovakia for academic mobility to study in Slovakia.

The duration of a scholarship stay for students is 1 – 2 full semesters or 1 – 3 full trimesters in case the academic year is divided into trimesters. For PhD students, the duration of a scholarship stay is 1 – 10 months. International university teachers, researchers, and artists can also benefit from this scholarship program and are invited to a teaching/research/artistic stay in Slovakia by an institution with a valid certificate of eligibility to carry out research and development.
