Are you looking to study in the United States but don’t want to take the IELTS test? Good news! You can still apply for scholarships that don’t require IELTS scores. Thousands of scholarships are made available to international students every year, funded by both the US Government and non-governmental bodies.
Here are some government-funded scholarships in the US that don’t require IELTS scores:
- Global UGRAD Exchange Program – This program provides a scholarship for one semester of non-degree academic study at any USA college or university. It aims to pick candidates from under-represented places that do not have the opportunity to study abroad.

- Yale Young African Scholars Programme – The YYAS is an intensive academic and enrichment program aimed at supporting young Africans who are currently in secondary school and planning to pursue higher education, as well as those wishing to make a meaningful leadership impact as youths.
- Hispanic Scholarship Fund for International Scholars – About 10,000 outstanding students are selected every year as HSF Scholars from a broad and talented pool of applicants. As an HSF Scholar, you will have access to HSF’s invaluable Scholar Support Services and be eligible to receive a scholarship.
- Obama Foundation Scholars Program – The program is a full-time, fully-funded leadership development program that brings together rising leaders from the United States and around the world who demonstrate a commitment to finding solutions to challenges in their communities, countries, and regions.
- Divid P. Shapiro Annual Leukaemia – This is a Fully-Funded Science and Law School Scholarships opportunity for students in any university under 1000 QS University Rank. This is offered by the Affidavit Institute of Judicial Practice. This scholarship is open to all international students around the world. It is for bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD studies.
To apply for scholarships in the United States without IELTS, it is required that the candidate have a good command of written and spoken English. While IELTS or TOEFL may not be a requirement, it is still important to have a good understanding of the English language.
