Fully-Funded Hong Kong PhD Fellowships – International Students 2024/2025


Are you an international student seeking to pursue a PhD degree in Hong Kong? Then the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) is an opportunity you wouldn’t want to miss. Established in 2009 by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong, the HKPFS aims to attract talented students from all over the world to undertake PhD studies in Hong Kong’s universities.

The Fellowship provides full funding for PhD studies in Hong Kong, covering an annual stipend of HK$331,200 (approximately US$42,460) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$13,800 (approximately US$1,760) per year for each awardee for up to three years. In addition, up to 300 PhD Fellowships will be awarded for the 2024/25 academic year.

The HKPFS is open to international students of any nationality who have outstanding academic performance, research ability/potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities. Candidates should be seeking to pursue a PhD degree in any of the eight eligible participating universities in Hong Kong, which are the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Education University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The University of Hong Kong.
