Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Fellows Programme 2024 - Apply Now

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is dedicated to leading worldwide efforts to eradicate hunger and ensure food security for all. With 195 members, FAO operates in over 130 countries and believes that everyone can play a role in ending hunger. To this end, the organization has designed the Fellows Programme to attract PhD students, researchers, and professors who possess advanced technical knowledge and experience in any field of the organization. Through time-bound arrangements with FAO, these fellows can fulfil their specialized learning objectives while also contributing their technical expertise and knowledge to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals and FAO’s Strategic Framework.

To be eligible for the programme, candidates must possess a graduate or post-graduate degree (Master’s or PhD), be enrolled in a “bona fide” educational institution at the time of application or be a recent graduate. Additionally, they should have at least two years of relevant working or research experience in one of the fields of the organization, a working knowledge of at least one FAO language, and be nationals of FAO members. Candidates should also be able to adapt to an international multicultural environment and possess good communication skills.

Interested candidates can apply for the programme on the FAO recruitment website. It is important to note that all candidates must adhere to FAO Values of Commitment to FAO, Respect for All, and Integrity and Transparency. The application deadline for the programme is August 25, 2024.

FAO is committed to achieving workforce diversity and encourages applications from qualified female applicants, qualified nationals of non- and under-represented members, and persons with disabilities. The organization has a zero-tolerance policy for conduct that is incompatible with its status, objectives, and mandate, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse of authority, and discrimination. Selected candidates will undergo rigorous reference and background checks, and all applications will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.

In conclusion, the FAO Fellows Programme offers a unique opportunity for PhD students, researchers, and professors to contribute their technical expertise and knowledge to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals and FAO’s Strategic Framework. The programme is designed to create efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agri-food systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life for all, leaving no one behind.
