The Clark-Alonso Africa Scholarship at Florida International University (FIU) is a prestigious scholarship opportunity designed to encourage research on sub-Saharan Africa in the Department of Politics and International Relations. This scholarship is available to graduate students pursuing a degree in either International Relations or Political Science within the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs.
The scholarship awards $1,000 each year to the graduate student who produces the best-published paper or conference paper on the politics or international relations of sub-Saharan Africa. To be eligible, applicants must have produced a paper on the politics or international relations of sub-Saharan Africa, which must have been published, accepted for publication, or presented at a conference during the previous calendar year.
A three-person faculty panel will review applications and determine the scholarship winner. In exceptional cases, the panel may announce joint winners, in which case the scholarship will be divided between the two. The scholarship will be presented at the Department’s annual Welcome Back Grads event, which takes place early in the Fall semester.
The application deadline for the Clark-Alonso Africa Scholarship is March 15, 2024. Interested and qualified applicants should visit the Florida International University (FIU) website at fiu.academicworks.com to apply. As part of the application process, applicants will be required to submit a published paper or conference paper on the politics or international relations of sub-Saharan Africa, as well as appropriate documentation of publication, acceptance, or presentation.
