Coal City University is thrilled to announce the launch of its Chancellor’s Annual Essay Competition, designed to inspire students to hone their writing talents, gain confidence, and express their creativity. This initiative is not only about nurturing young writers but also about sparking a thoughtful dialogue on pressing global concerns among our youth. It seeks to ignite the innovative and creative thinking of young minds towards achieving sustainable development, while also emphasizing our shared responsibility in addressing these critical issues.
This year’s theme, “SOCIAL MEDIA,” invites participants to dive into the profound effects of social media on today’s youth. In a world increasingly connected through digital platforms, young individuals are constantly manoeuvring through the nuanced realms of social media. This landscape offers unprecedented opportunities for global interaction but also presents unique challenges affecting personal identity, relationships, and prospects. We encourage participants to explore the role of social media in shaping the social fabric of Nigerian youth, examining its complexities, confronting its challenges, and imagining its potential to influence societal change.
The competition boasts attractive prizes, including a first prize of 500,000 naira or a full tuition fee scholarship at Coal City University for any chosen course, along with a Certificate of Achievement. Further prizes and certificates will be awarded to the runner-ups and all shortlisted students, acknowledging their excellence and participation. Senior Secondary School students (SS1-SS3) are eligible to enter by submitting a 700-1000 word essay in British English via the CCU website, with the deadline for submissions set for May 6, 2024. Essays will undergo a rigorous selection process, involving initial submissions, judging by a panel of professionals, and finally, oral presentations by the top finalists. Winners will be celebrated in an award ceremony at the University Auditorium on July 24, 2024, marking a significant milestone in their academic and creative journey.
