Australian Government Scholarship Awards for Developing Countries 2024

Australia Awards Scholarships are prestigious, long-term awards administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. These awards are designed to contribute to the development needs of Australia’s partner countries following bilateral and regional agreements. They provide opportunities for people from developing countries, particularly those located in the Indo-Pacific region, to undertake full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions. The study and research opportunities provided by Australia Awards Scholarships develop the skills and knowledge of individuals to drive change and contribute to development in their own countries.

The Australia Awards Scholarships are fully funded and offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian higher education institution, including any preparatory training. The scholarship package includes full tuition fees, return air travel, establishment allowance, contribution to living expenses, introductory academic program, overseas student health cover, pre-course English fees, supplementary academic support, and fieldwork for eligible research students.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be students from developing countries enrolling in a master’s degree study program in an Australian public university. Applicants must sign a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia, declaring that they will comply with the conditions of the scholarship. Scholars are required to leave Australia for a minimum of two years after completing their scholarship; failing to do so will result in the scholar incurring a debt for the total accrued cost of their scholarship.

Applications are accepted from students of developing countries, and the application deadline is April 30, 2024. To apply, applicants must check the opening and closing dates for their country, and select their country of citizenship/residency from the list of participating countries for specific information on eligibility, priority areas, and how to apply. Applicants must read the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook, and some countries encourage and allow online applications while others require hard-copy applications.
