Celebrate Africa World Heritage Day with AWHF’s #MyAfricanHeritage Competition

In honor of Africa World Heritage Day and the theme “My African Heritage,” the African World Heritage Fund (AWHF) invites all Africans to join in celebrating Africa’s rich heritage during Africa Month. By participating in AWHF’s #MyAfricanHeritage Competition, you stand a chance to win an unforgettable weekend visit to a remarkable African World Heritage site. The competition kicks off on Africa World Heritage Day (5 May) and concludes on Africa Day (25 May). This initiative aims to enhance awareness and appreciation for Africa’s World Heritage significance, while also emphasizing the importance of preserving the continent’s heritage values, wealth, and diversity. The competition is open to all Africans, whether residing on the continent or in the diaspora.

To enter, participants need to use the hashtag #MyAfricanHeritage to share a photo, video, or written post on AWHF’s social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn) that reflects the theme “My African Heritage.” Be sure to tag the African World Heritage Fund in your posts.

Prize Details

Winners will enjoy a weekend trip to a World Heritage Site, which includes a round-trip economy class flight, accommodation, and meals for two nights.

Participation Requirements

To take part in the competition, follow these guidelines:

  • Create a short video (up to 4 minutes) or a high-resolution photo that embodies what “My African Heritage” means to you.
  • Use the hashtag #MyAfricanHeritage and tag at least one of the following handles:
    • X (Twitter): @African_WH_Fund
    • Facebook and Instagram: @africanworldheritagefund
    • LinkedIn: @African World Heritage Fund (AWHF)
  • You can participate on multiple social media platforms.
  • Include a caption explaining the significance of the heritage depicted and what African heritage means to you.
  • Posts should be in one of the four official African Union languages: English, French, Arabic, or Portuguese.
  • Ensure your posts are public and shared between 5 May and 25 May.
  • There is no limit to the number of posts you can submit.
  • All content must be original and owned by the participant. AWHF is not responsible for any intellectual property disputes.

Selection Process

An independent jury will evaluate submissions based on:

  • Relevance to the theme “My African Heritage”
  • Engagement metrics such as likes, shares, and reactions
