The African Center for Governance and Economic Management (ACGEM) is excited to present a unique opportunity for young minds with the launch of an engaging essay competition centred around the theme: “Embracing Homegrown Democracy in Africa: Unlocking the Potential of African Democracies”. This competition aims to stimulate intellectual conversations and encourage the generation of innovative ideas to propel governance and economic management in Africa forward. ACGEM welcomes young scholars, students, policymakers, and thought leaders from all corners of Africa to participate in this enriching dialogue on the importance of homegrown democracy in the African context.

The ACGEM Youth Essay Competition offers a platform for participants to showcase their insights and perspectives on the theme. The competition not only promises a valuable experience for contestants but also provides an opportunity to win exciting prizes. The first-place winner will receive a $3000 cash prize along with an all-expense-paid trip to ACGEM headquarters in Accra for a one-month internship. The second-place winner will be awarded a $2000 cash prize, while the third-place winner will receive a $1000 cash prize.

To be eligible for this prestigious competition, applicants must be citizens of African countries aged between 18 and 35. The selection process involves the evaluation of submissions by a panel of esteemed experts in governance, economics, and democracy. Entries will be assessed based on originality, clarity, depth of analysis, and relevance to the competition’s theme. The deadline for essay submissions is June 28, 2024, with the winners set to be announced on September 30, 2024. For those interested in participating, essays should be written in English, not exceeding 5000 words, and submitted in Times New Roman font, size 12, with a line spacing of 1.5.
