The World Press Photo Contest is an annual event that celebrates and recognizes the best photojournalism and documentary photography produced over the last year, as chosen by an independent international jury. This contest is open to all professional photographers working in the field of photojournalism and/or documentary photography, and entering is completely free.
If you win, your work will be included in the annual travelling exhibition, which is displayed in over 80 cities around the world and seen by more than four million visitors, as well as published on the organization’s website and social media platforms with over two million followers. Additionally, you will receive €1,000 for each of the 24 regional winners and an additional €5,000 for the four global winners, an invitation to the Winners’ Program in Amsterdam, a physical award, and for the four global winners, a FUJIFILM GFX100 II camera with two lenses of their choice, two Li-ion batteries, and a dual battery charger.
The judging process takes into consideration various criteria, including visual quality, story, and representation. The organization recognizes that the jury comprises a diverse group of industry experts who each bring relevant knowledge of their regions and insight into different aspects of photojournalism and documentary photography. Therefore, while the organization sets these criteria, it also gives the jury the freedom to determine and define what makes an entry worthy of an award.
