Announcing the WFF Startup Innovation Awards: Empowering Change Through Technology
The World Food Forum (WFF) proudly presents the WFF Startup Innovation Awards, powered by Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC). This prestigious global competition aims to support and spotlight visionary entrepreneurs and innovators who are leveraging technology to transform agrifood systems sustainably. By focusing on ending global hunger and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, this initiative seeks to foster groundbreaking solutions that will benefit our planet and future generations.
In collaboration with XTC, the world’s largest startup competition dedicated to addressing global challenges, the WFF Startup Innovation Awards strive to elevate the next wave of entrepreneurs. These awards celebrate those developing cutting-edge technologies and innovations designed to enhance and sustain agrifood systems worldwide. A diverse group of specialists, innovators, and entrepreneurs from around the globe have come together to serve as experts and judges, ensuring that the most promising ideas are recognized and nurtured.
Benefits and Opportunities
The WFF Startup Innovation Awards offer a wealth of benefits for finalists, including travel allowances to attend the finals during the flagship event in Rome. Finalists will also gain global visibility, opportunities to raise capital, and the chance to network with key global entities, including governments, United Nations agencies, corporations, investors, and partners. Additionally, winners will have the opportunity to join WFF startup accelerator programs to scale their innovative solutions and receive a total of USD 30,000 in prizes.

The competition is open to startups impacting the following four categories:
- Digital Innovation in Food Processing
- Empowering Women in Agrifood Systems
- Food Loss
- Good Food for All, for Today and Tomorrow
Timeline:
- May 8, 2024: Launch of the WFF Startup Innovation Awards during the UN STI Forum via our website and social media.
- June 8, 2024: Deadline for new applications.
- June – October 2024: Shortlisting of startups, with selected entries highlighted on our website and participating in the September semi-finals.
Finals: The eight finalist startups will present their pitches to a panel of judges during the World Food Forum flagship event on World Food Day, October 16, 2024. Awards will be given for each category, along with one overall winner – the WFF Startup Innovation of the Year Award.
