UNESCO/Poland Co-Sponsored Fellowships in Engineering 2024 edition

In an initiative to boost human resource development in developing nations and foster global understanding and friendship, the Polish National Commission for UNESCO, together with the UNESCO Chair for Science, Technology, and Engineering at AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland, are proud to offer thirty (30) scholarships. These scholarships are aimed at candidates from developing Member States, providing a unique opportunity to engage in individual research programs in the fields of Science, Technology, and Engineering. The program spans six months, from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, and is designed to support the academic and professional growth of its beneficiaries.

The scholarship includes a range of benefits aimed at ensuring a productive and enriching stay in Poland. Scholars will receive free tuition along with access to university facilities as per local regulations. A monthly allowance is also provided—1800 PLN for BSc degree students and 2200 PLN for MSc degree students (with 1 USD equating to approximately 4 PLN)—to cover living expenses and accommodation. Additionally, a one-time special allowance will be given upon arrival to cover various activities related to the scholars’ stay, including cultural and academic engagements. International travel costs and health insurance are covered by UNESCO, alongside a one-time pocket allowance of US$120.

The application process is thorough to ensure the selection of deserving candidates. Interested individuals should refer to specific research criteria and qualifications outlined in Annex III, with eligibility details for certain research fields and projects detailed in Annex IV. Applications must be endorsed and submitted through the National Commissions for UNESCO in the candidates’ respective countries by May 10, 2024. The selection process prioritizes gender equality and diversity, with the final decision made by Polish authorities. Required application documents include a fully completed UNESCO fellowship application form, a copy of the applicant’s identity photo, certified copies of academic degrees, a UNESCO certificate of language knowledge, and two letters of recommendation.

To apply, candidates should first verify their eligibility by consulting Annex I and IV for their country’s status and the specific field of research. Following this, they should familiarize themselves with the terms, conditions, and required documents as specified in Annex II and III. The next steps involve contacting the National Commission for UNESCO for national-level application procedures, submitting the necessary documents, and finally, if nominated, forwarding their application to the specified UNESCO email addresses and completing an online information sheet by the deadline.

For further details and guidance on the application process, candidates are encouraged to visit the official UNESCO and AGH University websites. This scholarship program represents a significant opportunity for talented individuals from developing countries to advance their knowledge and skills in science, technology, and engineering, contributing to their personal development and the broader goals of international cooperation and development.
