In an exciting collaboration, the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) — which encompasses the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular and Drug Research located in Karachi, Pakistan — in partnership with The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), is proud to offer a unique opportunity for young scientists from developing countries (excluding Pakistan). This initiative aims to provide fellowships for those eager to undertake research leading to a PhD in various fields within chemical and biological sciences.
The TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowship program is designed to support studies at the ICCBS, focusing on disciplines such as organic chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular medicine, pharmacology, physical chemistry, and analytical chemistry. This program not only offers a chance to pursue advanced research but also facilitates the growth of knowledge and skills among scientists from the developing world.
Fellowship Benefits and Requirements:
The selected fellows will receive a monthly stipend from ICCBS to help cover living expenses, including food, accommodation, local transportation, and minor medical costs. To be eligible, applicants must be under the age of 45 as of December 31 of the application year, be nationals of a developing country (excluding Pakistan), and hold a PhD degree in a field of the natural sciences. Additional requirements include not having a visa for residency in Pakistan or any developed country, being employed and holding a research assignment in their home country, and demonstrating proficiency in English if it was not the medium of their education.
Application Process:
Candidates must submit an official Preliminary Acceptance Letter from ICCBS, certificates of good health, evidence of English proficiency, and a commitment to return to their home country upon completion of the fellowship. All applications and supporting documents, including reference letters and a sample acceptance letter, must be submitted online through The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) portal by July 17, 2024.
This fellowship program is a remarkable opportunity for young researchers from the developing world to advance their studies and contribute to the global scientific community. Interested and eligible candidates are encouraged to apply and take the first step towards achieving their research ambitions at one of Pakistan’s leading scientific research institutions.
