Are you an undergraduate student interested in pursuing a career in biology or related sciences and looking to continue to graduate studies? If so, the University of Tokyo is offering an eight-week biomedical research experience through its UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program. The program is open to students from different countries, including some from Japan, and is designed to provide them with research experiences in the basic and translational sciences. This program is provided by faculty members of the Graduate School of Medicine, Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Science, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the Institute of Industrial Science. By the end of their summer experience, students are expected to acquire knowledge and skills for conducting research, as well as extend their international friendships through collaborative experiences. These experiences will help the students to develop future collaborations in many situations.
To be eligible for this program, applicants must be undergraduate students who are enrolled in colleges or universities worldwide that award a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) and have completed their first year of undergraduate study at the minimum, at the time the summer program begins. They must also have a strong record of academic performance, a good working knowledge of English (demonstrated by a minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 72, IELTS overall band score of 5.5, Cambridge English FCE, TOEIC score of 1095, TOEIC L&R score of 785, or TOEIC S&W score of 310, if not a native English speaker), and an interest in pursuing a PhD.
Selected students will receive a scholarship that includes accommodation provided by UTokyo, participation in laboratory meetings or other gatherings, as well as orientation, required conferences, activities, and social events. They will also have the opportunity to give a poster/presentation describing their summer research project and submit a research paper to the UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program Director after the program.
The application deadline for this program is February 1, 2024. If you are interested and qualified, head over to amgenscholars.com to apply and take the first step towards an exciting career in biomedical research.
