IREX 2024 Community Engagement Exchange Program for Young Leaders

Promising Opportunity: The CEE Program

The Community Engagement Exchange (CEE) Program is a vibrant global network fostering innovation and collaboration to tackle pressing 21st-century challenges. The program empowers dedicated visionaries with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to develop multi-sector approaches and build healthy, engaged communities across more than 100 countries. If you’re a civil society leader aged 21-27, this year-long transformational leadership development experience could be your next big step.

The CEE Program is meticulously designed to enable participants to leverage networks, relationships, and information for the public good. Focused on civic dialogue and peacebuilding, open and participatory government, women’s and gender issues, environmental sustainability, and youth engagement, it offers a holistic approach to community leadership. The program includes a three-month practicum in the United States, where fellows are matched with civil society organizations. This hands-on professional experience is complemented by the Leadership and Civic Engagement Academy, which features interactive curriculum, mentorship, and professional coaching. Fellows also design and implement a Community Engagement Project (CEP) in their home communities, with ongoing support from U.S. hosts and mentors.

Benefits and Eligibility

The CEE Program covers most expenses, including J-1 visa support, round-trip travel to the U.S., a monthly allowance for living expenses, and health benefits. Entry is merit-based, targeting emerging civil society and community leaders who are 21-27 years old and citizens of eligible countries. Applicants should have a minimum of two years’ professional or volunteer experience in community or civil society work and be committed to returning to their home country to implement a community-based project. Proficiency in spoken and written English is also required; semifinalists will need to take a Duolingo English test, and finalists should be capable of effective communication on various topics.

Important Details and Application Process

The application deadline is July 2, 2024. For those interested and qualified, detailed application instructions are available on the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) website at cee.irex.org. This is a unique opportunity to grow as a leader and make a substantial impact in your community and beyond. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this transformative program!
