International Scholars Program - University of British Columbia 2024-2025

The University of British Columbia is delighted to offer the International Scholars Program to outstanding international undergraduate students who are looking to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Canada. The scholarship program is designed to help students who demonstrate superior academic achievement, leadership skills, and financial need. The scholarship awards a total of 50 scholarships across four categories with the value proportional to the financial need of the student.

The Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award is for students who have shown exceptional academic achievement and excellent leadership skills that empower others through collaboration, empathy, and active listening. The Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award is for students from impoverished or war-torn areas who have demonstrated academic excellence under challenging circumstances and would be unable to attend university without significant financial assistance. The International Impact Award is for students who have shown exceptional leadership and commitment to sustainability and climate change, natural resource conservation and management, social justice, equity and inclusion, and societal health and wellness. The Vantage One Excellence Award is offered by UBC Vantage College for academically outstanding international students who do not yet meet the English Language Admission Standard for direct admission to UBC.

To be considered for the scholarship, you must be an international student entering UBC from a recognized secondary school or transferring from your first year at a post-secondary college or other university. You must have graduated from high school no earlier than June two years before the academic year you are applying to, and you must be applying for your first undergraduate degree. You must also demonstrate superior academic achievement and a level of financial need that would otherwise prevent you from pursuing a UBC degree.

To apply, you must be nominated by your school or non-profit and submit a reference from an academic referee. You do not need to select which award you wish to receive as UBC will automatically consider you for the awards for which you are eligible. The application deadline for the scholarship program is November 15th, and the admissions application to UBC must be submitted by December 1st. Applicants must also meet the UBC English Language Admission Requirement by January 31st.
