Discover the AfOx Innovation Fellowships: Pioneering Health Equity in Africa
The Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx) is proud to present an unparalleled opportunity for African innovators committed to tackling health disparities across the continent. Through our unique multidisciplinary program, we aim to empower the brightest minds in Africa, helping them develop high-growth startups that make a real difference in improving health outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for many.
At the heart of our initiative are the AfOx Innovation Fellowships, awarded to up to 15 exceptional individuals who have completed our comprehensive online course in innovation and entrepreneurship within the health sector. These fellows stand out for their project’s potential to evolve into successful ventures that significantly impact health equity. In recognition of their promise, we provide each fellow with bespoke technical assistance, facilitated by our extensive network of collaborators from Oxford University. This collaboration is supported by over 300 researchers from across the university’s divisions, all eager to exchange ideas and expertise with our African innovators.
The fellowship experience is enriched by a week-long boot camp held in Oxford, designed to immerse our cohort in practical workshops and peer engagement. This intensive training covers crucial aspects of launching deep science startups, such as intellectual property, regulatory compliance, business valuation, fundraising, negotiation tactics, team building, and effective board management. This boot camp is a critical platform for fellows to refine their projects and integrate vital feedback on technical and business strategies.
The program culminates in a Demo Day, where fellows have the opportunity to showcase their startups to the AfOx network, opening doors to investment and additional support. This event is not just a milestone but a testament to the hard work and innovation that defines the AfOx Health Innovation Platform.
Engaging with the AfOx Health Innovation Platform offers numerous benefits, including access to a specialized 16-week online course on health innovation and entrepreneurship tailored for the African context. The curriculum is designed for busy innovators, requiring just 8–10 hours a week, and includes personalized mentorship and collaborative virtual workrooms to foster a cohesive and dynamic learning environment.
We invite solutions from all disciplines and technologies aimed at disease prevention, diagnosis, management, and treatment, with a special interest in projects that can significantly reduce premature deaths from non-communicable diseases, enhance diagnostics and prognostic tests, develop novel tools for endemic disease resilience, and address zoonotic diseases.
