GDN Global Development Awards Competition 2024

The Global Development Network (GDN) proudly presents the Global Development Awards Competition, an extraordinary initiative supported by the Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan. This prestigious competition is dedicated to acknowledging and fostering policy-oriented research and developmental projects that make a significant impact in low and middle-income countries. By providing substantial financial grants, the GDN aims to enhance the research capabilities of individuals and support projects that bring tangible benefits to marginalized communities across the developing world. Each year, the competition is centred around a fresh and pertinent theme, ensuring that the awards remain relevant and impactful.

For the 2024 edition, the competition is themed “Sustainable Climate Action for Human-Centered Development,” emphasizing the urgent need for innovative solutions in the fight against climate change while promoting sustainable development. The competition is divided into two main categories: The Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD) and The Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP). The ORD focuses on rewarding research proposals with the potential to significantly contribute to development issues, while the MIDP aims to support non-profit organizations in implementing innovative development projects.

Winners of the ORD category will receive grants ranging from US$ 10,000 to US$ 30,000 to aid the completion of their research, along with mentorship from world-renowned academics. In contrast, the MIDP winners will be granted up to US$ 50,000 for the first prize, with the opportunity for further funding to scale their projects. Eligibility criteria include citizenship or permanent residency in low or middle-income countries for ORD applicants and specific project requirements for MIDP submissions. The application process is carefully designed to select the most deserving and impactful projects and research. With an application deadline of August 19, 2024, potential applicants are encouraged to prepare their submissions to contribute to global development through innovative research and projects.
