The Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS) aims to diversify its student body by enrolling students from all over the world and all disciplines for the 3rd year of bachelor’s (licence 3) or 1st year of master’s (master 1). The International Selection competitive examination is open to young graduates in Arts & Humanities as well as Sciences. Applicants should have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies in a foreign university and have distinguished themselves with outstanding results.
Enrolling at ENS through the International Selection competitive examination provides access to excellent training through interaction with exceptional researchers in a unique training and research environment. International students become a part of the normal community and continue their studies at ENS and the university simultaneously. They will receive a monthly grant of 1,000 euros for three years and a room on one of the ENS campuses. Upon completion of their studies, these students will be awarded a master’s degree in their field of specialization and a diploma from the Ecole Normale Superieure.
The International Selection competitive examination consists of two stages: a selection based on the application and oral and written tests in Paris for shortlisted candidates. ENS opens 10 positions in Sciences and 10 positions in Arts & Humanities.
To be eligible for the ENS Masters Scholarship, candidates should not be over 26 years of age on December 1st. They should not have applied to the International Selection before and should not have lived in France for more than 10 months during the academic year of the selection (September 1st – August 31st) or the previous year. Candidates should have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies at a foreign university during the calendar year before the start of applications. They should also have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies at a foreign university on the 1st of September following admission.
The application for the International Selection in Arts & Humanities 2024 is open from October 17 to December 11, 2023 (23h59, Paris time). Shortlisted candidates will be announced on January 24, 2024. Written tests will be held between February 28 and March 1st, 2024, while oral tests will take place from March 4 to March 8, 2024. Admission results will be released on March 13, 2024.
To apply, interested and qualified candidates should visit Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS) on www1.ens.fr and fill out the initial application form. Within two days, candidates will receive an email to activate an account on Dematec, an application where they must upload the required documents in PDF format. If their file on Dematec is complete, it will be submitted to the jury. If the jury selects their dossier, they will be invited to take written and oral tests in Paris. The marks obtained at the tests determine the list of admitted students.
