The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is pleased to announce the Commonwealth Climate Resilience Challenge Grants, which are awarded to member universities to support initiatives aimed at addressing climate resilience. The grants are open to academic and professional staff and cover the cost of organizing projects that promote either of the two main strategic priorities of the Commonwealth Climate Resilience Network (CCRN). These priorities are enhancing the climate resilience of universities themselves and enhancing universities’ contribution to the resilience of communities, businesses, and government.
The ACU Commonwealth Climate Resilience Challenge Grants can be used for a wide range of projects, workshops, and events in three project focus areas. These include improving learning, teaching, and training for climate change adaptation, increasing the research capacity of CCRN members in climate change adaptation, and improving institutional resilience policies and practices adopted by Commonwealth universities. The grants have funded a diverse range of climate action projects across the Commonwealth, including sea-temperature monitoring in the coral reefs of Fiji and integrating indigenous knowledge on climate change adaptation with academia in New Zealand.
To apply for the grants, interested applicants must be staff members at an ACU member university and submit their application through the online application form by January 25, 2024. Applicants are encouraged to collaborate with other ACU member institutions to promote further Commonwealth partnerships. Grant applications that allow matching or additional funds from the applicant’s institution will be looked upon favourably.
In conclusion, the ACU Commonwealth Climate Resilience Challenge Grants provide an excellent opportunity for staff members at ACU member universities to support initiatives aimed at addressing climate resilience. To learn more about these grants and how to apply, visit the ACU website today.
