Calling all young scientists and innovators! The Breakthrough Junior Challenge is back, inviting students aged 13 to 18 from around the world to share their passion for science in an exhilarating way. This global competition challenges you to create a short, original video—no longer than two minutes—that explains a complex concept in physics, mathematics, or the life sciences.
This is your chance to transform how people understand science. Whether you opt for animation, a documentary style, or a dramatic presentation, your video should be as informative as it is engaging. Utilize dynamic visual aids like diagrams and simulations to bring your explanation to life, far beyond what text on a page could achieve. Remember, the goal is to make your viewers fascinated and eager to learn more by the end of your video.
The stakes are high, with incredible rewards on offer. The winning entry will earn a $250,000 scholarship for post-secondary education, a $50,000 prize for their teacher, and a $100,000 state-of-the-art science lab for their school. To enter, you must be at least 13 years old by April 1, 2024, and not older than 18 by October 1, 2024. We welcome entries in English from all eligible students, including those who are homeschooled or have disabilities, from any part of the globe.
Submissions will be evaluated based on their ability to engage and enlighten viewers, the clarity and depth of their content, and their creativity in presenting challenging material. The deadline for submission is June 25, 2024, by 11:59 PM PDT. To apply, visit the Breakthrough Junior Challenge website at breakthroughjuniorchallenge.org, complete the necessary forms, and submit your video. Don’t forget, to qualify for the scholarship, you will also need to participate in a Peer-to-Peer Review of five other submissions by July 10, 2024.
