Are you a young person between the ages of 8 and 16 making a difference in the world of environmental conservation? Action for Nature (AFN), a U.S.-based non-profit organization, is seeking to recognize and reward young people who are taking action to solve the world’s tough environmental problems by offering a yearly scholarship opportunity.
Since 2003, AFN has been honouring the work of young people all over the globe who have done creative environmental projects with a cash prize of up to $500, a special certificate of achievement, public recognition on AFN’s website and in the media, as well as exclusive access to their Eco-Hero Alumni Facebook Group.
To be eligible, applicants must be aged 8 to 16 and no more than 16 years of age on February 28, 2024. Only applications in English are accepted. The project must be action-based and self-initiated, and not one assigned by a teacher or other adult. It should be at least 6 months long and close to completion or completed within the last year. Science Fair and Scouting Badge projects will only be considered if they include environmental action, educational outreach to others, or extended studies beyond the Science Fair and Scouting Badges. AFN does not accept projects related to domestic or confined animals, compositions, or reports.
Preference is given to projects of 2+ years and/or ongoing projects. The applications will be judged according to several criteria, including but not limited to originality, difficulty, organization, length of time devoted to the project, influencing/educating others, use of outside resources, degree of success in reaching goals, and impact on the environment.
Interested and qualified candidates should apply on the AFN website. The application deadline is February 28, 2024. Become an eco-hero and make a difference in the world today!
